A Few Upgrades

I spent my first weekend since school started doing more site-related things than school related (no surprise there).

Friday, I ordered some new computer hardware to build my 2nd system. I have wanted to have a dedicated testing/review system for a while now and well, that time is now. Doing testing and business related work on the same system is very risky and I am surprised I haven’t lost any critical data yet. Anyway, an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 will makes it’s home in an EVGA nForce 680i motherboard — my first ever Intel setup. AMD has simply fallen on their face as of late and I couldn’t see myself spending money there when the Conroe chips are seemingly unbeatable at this price point. I picked up 2x 512MB sticks of G.Skill PC2 6400 from Silenze to hold me over for now. I will be using the 7800GTX from my current system, with the case and PSU coming from extras I have laying around. Everything should be here early next week (living near a Newegg warehouse means 3 day shipping usually = next day delivery) and I am looking forward to the build.

I finally got around to cleaning up my bedroom enough to make room for my “photo booth”.

Such a simple idea, yet for some reason I never thought to set up something like this before. Gone are the days of throwing my trusty white sheet over the couch for product review photos!

Speaking of photos, I have received a few emails asking about the camera I use to take the pictures used in my reviews.

I recently upgraded to this Nikon D80 (previously used a D50) with the “famous” 18-200mm VR lens. I received several comments on the lens during CES, as they are pretty rare. Seems Nikon cannot keep up with the demand for these great lens.
