I have been running OCIA.net full time for about 1 1/2 weeks now and while I know this is not a very long time, I wanted to take a few minutes to give everyone an idea of what it has been like thus far. I think the best way to do this is to simply detail a typical day from start to finish. And what better day to pick than, well, today…
I woke up today around 10:30 a.m. to the sounds of Mr. FedEx delivery guy knocking on my door with yet another package to drop off. When you receive as many packages as I do, Mr. FedEx guy, Mr. UPS guy and every employee at the Post Office knows you by name. Anyway, I yelled “just a minute” as I got out of bed and quickly got dressed. The FedEx guy used to simply knock then leave a door tag and reattempt delivery the next day. Then, it progressed to leaving his cell phone number on the door tag, and now he just waits an extra minute for me to get out of bed and get dressed lol.
Once awake, the first thing I usually do is check the front page, just to make sure everything is up and running without error. I usually fire up Winamp and AIM as well. I love to listen to music while I am working, and it’s always a good idea to make yourself available online should someone need / want to get in touch with you. After that, I check various stats (AGLOCO, OCIA.net traffic, blog traffic, Google Adsense, TTZ Media). From here, I check my e-mail account and reply to any questions or other e-mails that need attention. I try to make a quick round of some of my favorite websites, which include Rivals.com (Ole Miss sports, specifically football), MySpace.com, [H]ardOCP.com, Virtual-Hideout.net, JohnChow.com, BobBuskirk.com and Digg.com, just to name a few. From here, I will usually grab a quick bite to eat for breakfast then start to work on a review.
Today I spent about 2 hours working on my latest review, CoolIT’s Freezone CPU Cooler. I met up with my friend Sarah around 3 p.m. and went to walk her puppy in the Grove. The weather outside today was wonderful and I couldn’t pass up spending some time outdoors. I also had to check my mail at the Post Office in the Student Union and mail out a package. We came back to my place about an hour later and back to work I went on the review.
Mr. UPS guy stopped by around 6 p.m. to drop off a power supply tester I ordered from Newegg. I took a break at 7 p.m. to watch American Idol (insert laughter here) then finished up the review afterwards, which consisted of uploading, proofing, fixing grammar errors, etc. I posted the review on the front page and sent out a notice to my news affiliates. And here I am now, typing this blog entry, which is another thing I try to do at least 2-3 times per day.
So what do I have left to do tonight before bed? I plan to grab a bite to eat after posting this and probably start getting everything ready for my next review. I will take a nice hot shower and a final check of stats before I crawl into bed and call it a day…
