Blog Review: John-Chow-Dot-Com

In this post I will be conducting my first ever blog review. Under the microscope today is John-Chow-Dot-Com: The Miscellaneous Ramblings of a Dot Com Mogul. Before we get to the actual review, I want to take a moment and give a bit of history on John and how I came to find his blog.

John Chow is the owner of The Tech Zone, a hardware review website much like the one I run, OverClock Intelligence Agency. TTZ is one of the most successful tech sites on the net. I have been a follower of a TTZ for over six years now so the name John Chow is not new to me.

John has been hosting a party at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas for the past few years (the only tech site to do so) where he invites industry friends, media affiliates, site sponsors, etc. to hand out, mingle, network and just have a good time. This year, the OCIA.net crew made the V.I.P. guest list. John threw a great party and although I didn’t get to meet him in person (very crowded), I did meet several other people which eventually got me involved in blogging, and thus, John’s blog.

John’s blog is the second blog I came across while checking out this blogging world that was still very new to me. I bookmarked it and have been back every day since.

There is such a wealth of information on his site that it is hard to label under a specific category. Topics range from the latest sports cars (usually Corvettes lol), financial and banking tips, techno bytes and even fine dining.

John likes to photograph the foods he eats at expensive restaurants around his hometown. Personally, I am a cheeseburger/french fry kinda guy but there is something intriguing about the foods I see on his site. Would I try half the things he eats? Probably not, but it’s interesting to see what other people consume.

So what makes John-Chow-Dot-Com stand out among the endless sea of blogs in the “blogsphere”? Quite a bit, actually. John writes in a way that is very easy to understand… perhaps he “dumbs down” the topics he covers, but that is a good thing. He writes on a level that the average Joe can comprehend… in other words, you don’t have to have a Ph.D. in business management to learn a thing or two. John shares his ideas and opinions on all sorts of business ventures, several of which I have started following myself.

Another thing I like about John’s blog is that he is very down to earth. He makes no secret about the wealth he earns from his site each month, but does so in a way that doesn’t come off as bragging. In fact, he details where every dollar comes from and exactly how he did it. John gives advice to help bloggers make more income from their sites, generate more traffic and just make your blog a more enjoyable place that others will want to check out on a daily basis.

To be completely honest, I have learned more from John and his blog regarding financial investments, business strategies and just general useful knowledge in the past three weeks that I have in the past six years of running my own tech site. That alone keeps me coming back day after day…
