After months of being out of commission (one of this friend’s drove it into a telephone pole), Adam’s Montero is finally alive and running again. Adam did some pretty extensive body work a while back but never got around to fixing the engine until this past week. Somehow the only thing busted was the radiator, which is a pretty simple fix.
He was having some issues with the transmission but it just turned out that it was very flow on fluid. 3.5 quarts later and everything was golden. Below is a short video of the test run.
As you can see, it still isn’t quiet street legal just yet so it may be a bit before he can take it down to the woods for some fun. A front bumper, windshield, tags and insurance are all needed. A temporary bumper and windshield should be somewhat easy to come by at a junk yard and the other things are just a matter of money. Some big boy tires would also help to get through the mud but what he has now should be enough to at least make it to the sand bar.
I spent some time the past two weeks taking a few more HDR pics. All but one were taken at the Memphis Motorsports Park back on March 8. The other Mustang pic was taken last week at a local park. Each picture is clickable for a larger version. Enjoy!
Keith, Matt and I went out to the Memphis Motorsports Park last night. Since Matt’s visit back in March, he has added a few more upgrades and we were all curious to see how his car was going to run.
His first two runs were all-motor, with a best of 12.33 @ 111.19 MPH. On his last run, he sprayed a baby 65 shot of nitrous which made a huge difference. See the video below…
Keith and I took a trip out to meet up with my brother today to check out his new Dodge Challenger. Dodge recently released their remake of the classic Challenger from the muscle car era, and FINALLY, someone got a remake right! This car is absolutely gorgeous! With 425 HP and gobs of torque, it certainly puts you back in the seat. Below are some pics and a video that we made earlier today.
Keith picked up his Mustang from the shop today. Below is a post, directly from him:
“Well she’s finally back from the shop. The custom cam I got was designed to give me a lot of low end torque so I could have fun on the street a little. I was kind of disappointed in the HP numbers but the TQ was outstanding. Mods include:
The car made 227 HP and 270 TQ on a mustang dyno. The TQ curve was very flat, which does make for some fun on the street. The car is a blast to drive. The HP numbers bother me, but we shall see what it does on the track. Here’s a little idle video. It may have crappy numbers, but it sure sounds mean!”
The drag strip at the Memphis Motorsports Park re-opened for the season last night. The track shut down for the season back in November and was supposed to re-open at the beginning of February, but management decided to do some maintenance to the track to help cars hook better and offer an overall safer racing environment.
Keith and I hit the track, along with Matt, Jake and Josh, shortly after it opened. Keith’s Mustang is between mods, so he won’t be able to run for another couple of weeks, but Matt and Jake ran their Camaros.
Matt only ran marginally better than last time (12.7 last time, 12.6 @ 111 mph this trip), despite his new gears and drag radials. There are a few reasons for the small gain. First, the new wheels weight a lot more than his stock ones (40 lbs. vs. 60-65 lbs. per wheel). Also, his new lowering springs didn’t help any with weight transfer.
Jake just bought his car a few weeks ago and ran a really great time for a stock 98′ Z28 (13.4 @ 104 mph), not to mention he got one heck of a deal for it ($6,200).
Sexiest car of the night goes to this Viper… I LOVE those cars!
Hopefully we will be back at the track in a few weeks once Keith gets his car back. A new cam, gears and rear end (along with extensive head work) should net him a much faster time than his last effort (14.4 - slow, but not bad for a basically stock 92 GT with 160+ miles and highway gears).
The North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center is home to mobile audio, navigation and other vehicle accessories, and is a great place to see some really cool rides. But, being the car enthusiasts that we are, we took things a few steps further and also visited the Imperial Palace Auto Collection AND Exotic Cars at Caesars Palace. Odds are, you won’t find all of these cars in any other CES coverage. So, sit back, and Enjoy the Ride - we sure did!
Last night we hit the track to see what Keith’s Newest Car was capable of. With only very mild exhaust mods (H-Pipe and Mufflers), we were expecting mid 15s at best.
It was an extremely cold night (32 F) which is both good and bad. Good, because lower air temps = more power but bad, because when the track is this cold, it can be tough to get traction. Keith made four passes, netting his best time of 14.4 on his second pass! Yes, 14.4 is “slow”, but for a basically stock 92 GT with 160k+ miles and highway gears in the rear, this is better than any of us anticipated!
Our friend Matt also made the trip and ran at best of 12.7 in his 2002 Camaro Z28 with basic exhaust mods. Those LS1 motors are mean, that’s for sure!
This was the last event of the season so we will have to wait until February before everyone gets a chance to run again.
Those of you that follow this blog on a regular basis should already be familiar with my friend Keith. Keith goes through cars about as fast as a family of four goes through a roll of toilet paper. Don’t believe me?

2004 Ford Mustang GT
1999 Chevrolet Camaro SS
Nine cars in eight years… keep in mind, he is only 24! His last car was a NICE 99 Camaro SS but, not wanting a car note, he decided to sell it and get something cheaper.
Enter the latest victim on his list: 1992 Ford Mustang GT. Keith picked this car up today, which sports the following mods: LX Tail Lights, H&R Springs, Short Throw Shifter, Sub Frame Connectors, H-Pipe with 2 Chamber Flowmasters and Smoked Headlights.
Keith is coming down Wednesday to show me the new ride and I am heading back to his place that night. On Thursday, he plans to run the car at the track to get some baseline 1/4 mile numbers before he starts adding some mods. We expect the car to run pretty darn slow, since it’s pretty much stock besides the exhaust.
17″ Chrome Cobra R Rims are high on his list, as well as a new set of gears in the rear. I’m trying to persuade him to drop in twin turbos, but he seems more into the idea of supercharging it…
