Photo-A-Day: Day 13

I took this picture about this time last year.  This swing set  is located behind my apartment building and as you can tell, it has seen better days.  I am not sure why I like this photo so much, but there is just something about it I can’t put my finger on…

Photo-A-Day: Day 12

I took this picture sometime last spring using my old Nikon D50 with a 70-300mm lens at full zoom.  It can be difficult to “sneak up” on a squirrel, but this little guy wasn’t camera shy at all!  Spring is one of my favorite seasons for this exact reason; animals are out and flowers are in full bloom.  Good stuff…

Photo-A-Day: Day 11

Today we have a random photo from our trip to the 2007 CES in Las Vegas. This particular picture was taken at the OCZ / Shuttle party. Those with a keen eye may recognize evil blogger John Chow somewhere in the crowd.  Its kind of like Wheres Waldo, except, with John!

Photo-A-Day: Day 10

An aerial view of the OCIA.net LAN party we held last year at The World Famous’ house.  We had 8 people show up that day:  Me, Keith, KattiKawn, The World Famous (obviously heh), ATL, Fstroupe and his two grandkids.  LAN parties at The World Famous’ are always great fun.  Plenty of gaming and more junk food than you should logically consume in a month’s time!

Photo-A-Day: Day 8

Hey, nobody ever said the Photo-A-Day had to be strictly “photography” right?  The above picture was taken at The Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo, Texas.  We stopped by on the way back from CES so The World Famous could have a try at this huge hunk of meat.  The rules are simple:  if you can eat the 72 oz. steak and all of the side items (baked potato, salad, roll and some shrimp scampi stuff) in under an hour, the meal is free!  We had high hopes for The World Famous, but after his hour was complete (they sit you in the center of the restaurant on a stage with a countdown timer behind you),  the steak was not all gone.  He managed to down all of the side items and more than half of the steak.  His comment?  “I was just sick of eating steak!”

Photo-A-Day: Day 7

Yeah… the moon, nothing you haven’t seen before lol. I took this photo some time last year using a Nikon D50 mounted on a tripod with a 70-300mm lens at full zoom. I was really surprised at the amount of detail I got from this lens. I have always loved astronomy, and it’s pictures like this that really make you think…

Photo-A-Day: Day 6

I took this picture last July at Grayton Beach in Florida using my Nikon D50.   Adam and I took a trip down to visit his grandmother who just happens to live about an hour away from the beach.  Ahh how I miss the warm weather of summer…

Photo-A-Day: Day 5

This photo was taken last fall during the Ole Miss vs. Vanderbilt Homecoming Game (Ole Miss won 17-10, yey!) using a Nikon D50.  I had my friend Kiwi take the picture as I posed, then did some work in Photoshop to get the black and white effect.  I was pleased with how the end result turned out, and it has actually won a few awards in online photo contests.

Photo-A-Day: Day 4

I took this picture during our trip to CES last month in Las Vegas.  I used a Nikon D80 with an 18-200mm VR lens.  The VR (vibration reduction) lens really worked great for the night scenery pictures I shot.  I did not use a tripod for any of the pictures I took and the majority of them came out very sharp.  The photo above of the Eiffel Tower at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino was one of my favorites.

Photo-A-Day: Day 3

I took this photo last summer here on campus at the University of Mississippi.  I used a Nikon D50, 18-55mm lens and a Hoya R72 Infrared filter.  Once I snapped the pic (and several others), I used an Infrared action in Photoshop to manipulate the colors to what you see above.  Infrared is a lot of fun to play with but is very difficult to master and takes a lot of trial and error.  Infrared photos like this turn out best in the middle of summer, so be prepared to bring some bottled water with you as it gets very hot, very quickly!
