A very simple question: do you have a savings account?
I was reading a post over at How I Save Money regarding an emergency fund that Lulugal created and named “My Never Go Back To Fresno Fund”. There is actually a funny story behind the name and I won’t spoil it here, so if you want to know more, just hit her link!
Anyway, the post got me thinking about my savings account. I created a savings account back in 2005 and used it primarily to hold money from my student loan each semester. Seeing as I no longer go to school, it would seem that I wouldn’t have much activity on this account… but that is not the case. I have been actively depositing money into my savings account for the past several months. Why?
Well, why not? The smarter side of me says that I could much better use this money sometime in the future rather than blow it on petty items in the present. So with that thinking in mind, I have been keeping a close eye on my money and trying to cut back on a lot of wasteful spending: fast food, random leisure activities, etc.
I am not saving for anything particular at the moment, but it is a good feeling to know that if “something” were to happen, I still have a little money that I could fall back on. Taking a page out of Lulugal’s book, perhaps I should name it “My Never Go Back To School Fund” !
