Do You Have A Savings Account?

null

A very simple question: do you have a savings account?

I was reading a post over at How I Save Money regarding an emergency fund that Lulugal created and named “My Never Go Back To Fresno Fund”. There is actually a funny story behind the name and I won’t spoil it here, so if you want to know more, just hit her link!

Anyway, the post got me thinking about my savings account. I created a savings account back in 2005 and used it primarily to hold money from my student loan each semester. Seeing as I no longer go to school, it would seem that I wouldn’t have much activity on this account… but that is not the case. I have been actively depositing money into my savings account for the past several months. Why?

Well, why not? The smarter side of me says that I could much better use this money sometime in the future rather than blow it on petty items in the present. So with that thinking in mind, I have been keeping a close eye on my money and trying to cut back on a lot of wasteful spending: fast food, random leisure activities, etc.

I am not saving for anything particular at the moment, but it is a good feeling to know that if “something” were to happen, I still have a little money that I could fall back on. Taking a page out of Lulugal’s book, perhaps I should name it “My Never Go Back To School Fund” ! :)

Bad plan man, right now money in a savings account is shrinking from inflation faster then it’s growing from interest. You’re much better off with another form of investment.

  2. Lulu Said,

Awwwww Shawn school is not THAT bad. I think you should rethink the naming of your fund…how about Never go back to HAVING to eat ghetto food but only doing it because you WANT to fund? LOL.

Figuring out how to pay for college can put a lot of stress on a family budget. And for those students who can’t rely on financial support from mom and dad, the pressure can be even greater….
