That’s right, the evil genius John Chow has written an e-book and is offering it for Free to anyone who wants it!
John sent me a draft version yesterday before posting it live on his blog. I did a quick scan through the 60-page .PDF document and was pretty impressed. The layout is very clean, with a table of contents and each section is divided into chapters.
The content itself consists mostly of stuff that is already available on his blog. Main topics include blogging tips, monetizing your blog, Google optimization, promotion ideas and “My Story”, which talks about how John got started in the computer hardware review industry. John’s start in this business was very similar to mine - starting a small site just to show off his first computer. The next thing you know, you are running a full-out review site!
The benefit of this e-book is that it is all neatly packaged and presented for you without having to search through his blog archives. Oh, and did I mention it is free? Why would John offer something this valuable for free? Why not sell it for a premium and make money from the venture?
There are several reasons actually. With a free e-book, the odds of it being downloaded and distributed across the net increases drastically. That will, in turn, generate even more traffic for John’s blog. Almost all of the links in the e-book are referral links for the various money-making programs he is enrolled in. The links take you back to his blog. Also, offering the e-book for free is “against the norm”, something that John is known for. A perfect example of this is the fact that John makes no secrets about the money he earns from blogging: how he made it, where it came from and how much. In the past, these were all well-kept internet secrets; not anymore!
