A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I wanted to try my hand at HDR photography. I finally spent a few hours tonight trying it out on some older photos I have. The results so far are pretty promising, but I know I have a lot more to learn still…

Oooh, I love the Roman stairway from Vegas. You didn’t show me that one. If only there weren’t any pesky people or that sign in the image.
Composition-wise, the first one is my favorite.
Wow shawn those are pretty good! I should pick up a copy of Photomatrix and work on HDR. Though I’d have to go borrow my mum’s dSLR so I can do auto-bracket exposures and of course shoot in RAW.
Now common, if you’re gonna do it at least do it the right way. True HDR done with a normal camera requires multiple shots at different exposure levels, ‘old photos’ mean fake HDR. ![]()
So were you using only 1 shot photos or old photos with multiple exposures? The staircase has very nice lighting, nice shots.
Looks great, I especially like the one with the oncoming storm.
Because these are old pictures, do you have any sort of before/after you could show us?
Jacob and How to Save Money - Yes, these were just tests that I did to get a feel for the program. I used old, single photos - I made three images, one of the photo normally, one with increased brightness and one with decreased brightness. I still plan to go out and shoot specifically for HDR, just haven’t had time to do it yet.
Asdf - That’s the neat thing about doing HDR… there was no storm in any of the original pics. Yes, I still have the before and after that I can show. Just email me if you want to see them and I’ll send some over.
