then why did consumers spend $500 million on a video game (Grand Theft Auto 4) and $100 million on a movie (Iron Man) this past week?

Can’t agree on this one with you! They need 500 million for promotion etc
Economy is in a bad shape, rly ![]()
You are right on the mark!
>Monetize Pro - not so much.
It’s kinda like how some folks don’t understand the difference between a profit margin and the gross profit $$$.
Monetize Pro - My point being, if things are sooo bad, shouldn’t people have spent $600 million on important, non-entertainment things like food, shelter, gasoline, etc?
The economy is heading down the street to be in bad shape. The thing is that people don’t realize it yet. Some of the people who bought the game and went to see the movie might have tons of debt but they don’t see it as a problem because they can afford the minimum payments every month.
The economists see the big picture with gas prices and job losses but those other folks just see a good time playing GT4 when they get home from watching Iron Man on the big screen.
All a matter of perspective.
I agree with you lulu, its not that the economy is the problem… its the people in it and their careless spending. Take that $600 million and pay off debt… the whole ‘economy issue’ would go away quickly. Yes, it is all a matter of perspective. The broke idiots who have no self control over their spending are the ones who think everything is just terrible. You don’t hear debt-free people complaining about things, because minor annoyances like gas and food prices are barely even noticeable to them.
Maybe it’s because I don’t drive… but really, gas prices aren’t such a huge problem that everyone makes them out to be. On average, prices increased $40 per month per person since last year. If $40 totally shatters your budget and your life… well, you have bigger issues at hand. I know a lot of people that “waste” gas with their lead foots on the pedal and who simply joy ride around town because they are bored. Want to save money? Don’t drive as hard and as much.
Even at $3.50 per gallon or whatever it currently is, everyone should still be very fortunate that we live in a place where cars and gas are readily available. Imagine saving that $3.50… but having to walk 20 miles for it. Still seems like a fair trade-off to me.
