MidSouth Tornado Activity

Yesterday and today have been record-setting warm days. Yesterday’s high was around 75 F and today was about the same. This kind of weather is unheard of in February… and anytime you have weather this warm, you know that some really bad weather is just around the corner. That is exactly what is happening now.

A cold front is moving in on the area and when the cold and warm air mix, the atmosphere becomes VERY unstable, spawning severe storms and tornadoes. I have been watching the news for the past few hours and there have been easily a dozen or more tornadoes spotted in the area. Below are a few photos from the local news stations.

There are already reports of some major damage to a mall in Memphis and some warehouses in Southaven.

The real kicker is… this isn’t the storm that they were anticipating. “That” storm is still on the way…

  1. Jeff Kee Said,

I remember living in Missouri, and as I child I used to get tornado drills all the time. I am proud to say I know what to do in the event of a tornado, not to mention I also know what the alarm sounds like.

When I went to school again in Korea, the only training we had was anti-war training for bombing and other type of possible air strike.

When i went to school in Vancouver, Canada, the only training we got was earthquake drills.

I’ve gone to school in MA all of my life, and we never get any sort of training!

There aren’t really earthquakes or tornadoes up here, and nobody important enough lives around here to warrant an air strike, so we just chill, I guess.

All I can say is, crack those windows an inch and head to the basement! dayumm those look intense =/

  3. Derek Said,

Stay safe! In our area they are calling for snow - about another 6-9 inches on top of the 12+ we received last week, which I will take over tornados any time.
