WWE, the professional wrestling organization, recently created a storyline where owner Vince McMahon was killed in a limo accident.
I used to be an avid wrestling fan but have since “grown out” of that phase. It’s been probably 5-6 years since I have watched any wrestling programming.
But, I am made aware of the stories and event thanks to my dad. He tells me all about them, and asks if I watched it, even though I tell him every time that I haven’t watched it in years.
So, a few weeks ago when I was talking to my dad, he mentioned the McMahon “death”. No hearing anything about it on the news, I searched Google and quickly found the answer I was looking for: it was nothing more than a scripted storyline. I keep telling him that its just a storyline, but he continues to bring it up and tells me about how the WWE continues to play the story through.
I thought the entire idea was pretty tasteless but eh, these guys will do anything to boost ratings.
Unfortunately, this storyline has backfired in a serious way.

WWE Wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy (stagename Woman) and their seven-year-old son Daniel were found dead in their Georgia home earlier today.
Courtesy Edmonton Sun:
“FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. — Canadian pro wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and son were found dead Monday and police said they were investigating the deaths as a homicide.
Lt. Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department in suburban Atlanta said the three were found at their home about 2:30 p.m., but refused to release details.
Pope said results of autopsies on Benoit, his wife Nancy, and seven-year-old son Daniel were expected Tuesday.
The WWE cancelled its live “Raw†wrestling card Monday night in Corpus Christi, Texas.”
My thoughts are with the Benoit family and friends. But, I can’t help but think how much of an ass McMahon must feel like now, after pulling his “death” storyline just weeks earlier.
